The once industrial area surrounding Brooklyn Fire Proof Workspaces has seen a massive explosion of development in recent years, but the renegade artistic streak still runs throughout. Home to the trail-blazing restaurant, Roberta’s, there are now numerous others to choose from including Dashi Brooklyn, a Japanese comfort food restaurant housed in the BFP Bushwick building and featuring a bright and open air eating area. The neighborhood is fast becoming a film hub. Be Electric, a film soundstage and photography complex is across the street and the new Netflix soundstage facility will be located a few blocks away on Johnson Ave. Renting a studio from Brooklyn Fire Proof means being part of a larger community of creatives and makers!

Our Community

BFP’s work began in NYC in the form of an art gallery and collective space in an old industrial building in Williamsburg, conceived to foster the careers of emerging artists. We moved East to Bushwick to escape the rising rents and, in addition to studio rentals, continue to offer free exhibition and performance space as well as resident fellowships. Throughout the years, Brooklyn Fire Proof has hosted numerous art shows in our white box gallery space, Temporary Storage, often showcasing our own tenants.

Our History

Brooklyn Fire Proof represents a multi-site complex of six interconnected and thriving creative businesses in the industrial Bushwick/East Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York. This project commenced in 1999 and originated as studios and a DIY gallery space built into a vacant factory building in Williamsburg - the iconic Brooklyn Fireproof Door & Sash building. Today, Brooklyn Fire Proof manages or owns over 200,000 square feet of creative spaces that services a community of diverse makers, artists and creatives, both in Brooklyn and beyond.

As we continue to expand we continue our expansion to the Hudson Valley, we are partnering with our new non-profit, BFP Creative Inc., and our Newburgh based RIPRAP to expand our mission by creating transformative arts-based economic development that nurtures and inspires the whole community while sustainably renovating commercial and residential spaces.
